An auction to award 19 private liquor store permits in Saskatchewan, including one in southwest of the province, opened Monday.

That province announced in late 2022 it would privatize its alcohol retailing facilities by early 2023, selling off 34 stores throughout the province.

This week, permits to open new locations are part of a bidding process that concludes Friday.

Locations listed in public advertising include the RM of Maple Creek, Rosetown (northeast of Kindersley) and three in Lloydminster, in western Saskatchewan among 11 municipalities, including smaller centres near Prince Albert, Regina and Saskatoon.
