Denver Ailsby was arrested last January after members of the ALERT regional crime unit in Medicine Hat stated they found a stolen all-terrain vehicle and a variety of loaded guns on his property. Ailsby, who was previously subject to a court-ordered lifetime prohibition on owning firearms, will go to trial in late March, 2024. Prior to that however, a hearing will be held in February to determine if his rights were violated, defence attorney Marc Crarer told Alberta Court of Justice proceedings in Medicine Hat on Tuesday morning. The two-day trial, originally set to take place in November, was postponed by the Crown due to witness availability. Ailsby, 44, was released from custody after the search and arrest on Jan. 4. A police release at the time states the side-by-side was reported stolen from Redcliff the previous month, and during the search six rifles and two shotguns were found in “plain sight, stored carelessly throughout the garage.” Ailsby faces a single count of possessing stolen property valued above $5,000, 12 counts of possessing weapons dangerous to the public, 10 counts of possessing firearms without a licence, 26 charges of violating two separate court prohibitions on owning firearms, 11 counts of careless storage and one count of altering a firearm’s serial number. 10
