https://www.medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews A pair of Medicine Hat cribbage players are Alberta champions and will head to the national tournament next year. Lynn Carter and Ron Quinton secured the gold medal for doubles crib at the Alberta 55-plus summer games held August 17-20 in Brooks. With it comes entry to the national senior’s games in 2024 at Quebec City. Carter told the News that the pair’s small game secured them the best record in the 16-team tournament. “The hands were terrible – my best was 16 – but pegging won it for us,” said Carter. “There were lots of 19s and for a while I though we were playing golf: four, four, four.” A total points tiebreaker became a moot point, however, as the Hatters finished three wins clear of second-place finishers after facing each other team twice over a total of 30 games. Carter, who plays regularly at Veiner Centre, said the pair is now seeking sponsorships to attend the national tournament next August. 8
