Calls for proposals for the New Horizons Seniors Program begin Tuesday, MP Glen Motz’s office announced Thursday. The federal grant supports community-based projects designed by and for seniors. “Seniors provide an incredible amount of wisdom and heritage to our society, and their contributions make Canada a better place,” Motz says in the release. “By investing in programs that benefit and empower seniors, we, in-turn, benefit all of our communities.” In order to qualify, projects must last less than one year, with funding of less than $25,000, and seniors must play a vital role in the planning and delivery of the program. Projects submitted must meet at least one of the following objectives: – Promoting volunteerism among seniors and other generations; – Engaging seniors in the community through the mentoring of others; – Expanding awareness of elder abuse, including financial abuse; – Supporting the social participation and inclusion of seniors; – Providing capital assistance for new and existing community projects and/or programs for seniors More information on the NHSP, including how to apply can be found at canada.ca/en/employment-social- development/services/funding/new-horizons-seniors-community-based.html.
