Heat that has spurred warnings across Southern Alberta could push temperatures in Medicine Hat above 35C through the early part of the week.
Environment Canada says the combination of extremely high daytime temperatures and a lack of cooling overnight should lead people to be cautious and take measures to prevent heat stroke and related illness.
Friday’s list of heat warnings stretched from the mountain parks and Hanna though the southwest portion of Saskatchewan.
The forecast for Medicine Hat calls for highs between 34C and 36C through Monday, with lows only falling to 17C overnight.
Evenings should be cooler after Tuesday, at which point highs should also moderate to the 30C-range.
Environment Canada recommends rescheduling outdoor activity to the early morning or later evening, taking frequent breaks and seeking shelter in the hottest parts of the day, while drinking plenty of water or non-alcoholic beverages.
Drivers should always check for children or pets whenever you leave a vehicle as they should not be left unattended for any period of time in a vehicle.
The U.S. National Weather Service office in Great Falls has issued a “significant heat risk” warning for eastern portions on Montana for Monday. The forecast high for Havre, Mont. that day is 100F, or about 38C.
