Forty Mile issues fire restriction
By James Tubb on July 21, 2023.
The County of Forty Mile has issued a fire restriction, cancelling all burning permits and restricting open fires in the county until further notice.
That includes fireworks, torches, charcoal barbecues and deep fryers. It doesn’t pertain to gas barbecues or wood fires contained in proper fire pits, but officials recommend soaking the ground around a pit before lighting a fire.
“Although this is not a fire ban, the county is still asking citizens and visitors to be extra cautious and be extra vigilant,” a release from the county reads.
Cypress County has had a fire ban in effect since June 29, while restrictions are in place in the Newell County, Special Areas No. 2 and the MD of Taber.
Areas along the Alberta boundary in Saskatchewan have also enacted fire bans, such as the RMs of Deer Forks and Enterprise, while a fire restriction is in place the RM of Maple Creek.
There is no fire ban in place in Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park.
