Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede is ready to ring in the summer at Saturday’s annual Canada Day Celebration.

The day gets started at 9 a.m. with the Lions Club pancake breakfast at Co-op Pioneer Village and the Farmers’ Market in the Cypress Centre Fieldhouse.

Things really get going following the opening ceremony, which will be held at Pioneer Village. The village itself, as well as Safety City, will be open until 5:30 p.m.

A $2 hot dog lunch – free for kids 12 and under – kicks off at 1 p.m. alongside the cake decorating challenge, standalone community booths and Canada Day keychain workshop, and displays from Medicine Hat Police Services, Fire Services, HALO, and the local stock car association at Higdon Hall.

The keychain workshop, hosted by Faithful Beads, costs $10 to make two keychains for those who register ahead of time by emailing faithfulbeadsworkshops@gmail.com, or $15 for those who register at the door.

Free stage entertainment kicks off at 2 p.m. and runs until 6 p.m, while beer gardens and food trucks will be on site and operating from 4-11 p.m.

The infield stage performances by Glen Morin and Friends, Shig Bits and Flaysher runs from 4 p.m. until 11 p.m.

The marquee event of the evening – the annual fireworks display – is scheduled to begin at roughly 11 p.m.
