A duo from Calgary is in custody facing drug trafficking charges following an Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams investigation that concluded earlier this month. ALERT Medicine Hat had received intelligence that led to the identification of a vehicle believed to be involved in drug trafficking. A planned traffic stop of the vehicle was initiated in Medicine Hat and 510 grams of methamphetamine, with a street value of more than $30,000, were found inside. “It’s our understanding that these drugs were being brought to Medicine Hat with the intention of being sold and ending up on our streets,” said Sgt. David Gornisiewicz, ALERT Medicine Hat. “Having seized this amount, and laying charges on those involved, speaks volumes and says that we don’t want this kind of activity in our community.” Shingiral Chinyani, 37, and Nehemie Chery, 31, of Calgary are both facing trafficking charges. The pair remain in custody awaiting a bail hearing. Members of the public who suspect drug or gang activity in their community can call local police, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers is always anonymous. 6
