Medicine Hat hit a high of 10+ on Alberta’s Air Quality Health Index on Saturday as wildfire smoke hung thick over the city, limiting visibility and sunlight, and casting an orange-ish glow. A rating of 10+ is the highest rating on the AQHI and signals very high risk to health. When air quality is rated 10+, individuals are encouraged to limit time spent outdoors and keep the windows of their home closed to reduce exposure. Medicine Hat was one of several communities across the province to receive a 10+ rating Saturday. In the days leading up, the city’s rating hovered between three and five. As of Monday, Medicine Hat’s air quality was rated at four, which signifies moderate risk, however its rating is expected to drop to a three or two today. 6
