Residents at Medicine Hat’s Masterpiece Southland Meadows retirement home were all smiles as they took part in a spring market at the home on May 12.
The market, hosted by the Mom Market Medicine Hat, was, in part, a fundraiser for local non-profit organization, Bunny Run Rabbit Rescue, but was also an opportunity for residents to connect with each other, as well as several community vendors.
A variety of items were for sale at the BRRR booth, including selling artwork painted by bunnies, snacks and raffle tickets, with all proceeds going toward veterinary care for rescued bunnies within the organization.
BRRR also brought two bunnies to meet with residents, many of whom were thrilled to sit, hold and pet the them.
Numerous vendors had goods for sale, including jewelry, scarves, socks and more.
Vendor Joe Miller was particularly excited to be selling at the market, as Masterpiece doubles as his home.
Miller was selling and signing copies of his autobiography, Who I Am: A Little Book of Hope, and said he was glad for the opportunity to connect with residents he hadn’t yet met.
“It’s a great experience,” said Miller. “(My wife Beryl and I) came to Masterpiece a year ago, so we’re really brand new, but I’m having a very nice time talking to people who’ve been here for three, four or five years.”
Masterpiece lifestyles co-ordinator Alysha Isberg said the home tries to hold markets monthly, as residents always enjoy socializing.
“We are always pleased to bring in markets and businesses from our community that our residents might not otherwise have an opportunity to see,” said Isberg. “By bringing in the Mom Market our residents, their families and staff had the opportunity to interact with community members and shop in the comfort of their own home.”
