City seeks public feedback on airport services in online survey

By Medicine Hat News on May 13, 2023.

The City of Medicine Hat is looking to update airport services and is asking residents to share what changes they’d like to see through an online survey, open now until June 2.

The survey is part of the city’s comprehensive Air Service Restoration Plan, which launched in 2022 and aims to evaluate demand for local air service through engagement with airport stakeholders, service users and the community as a whole.

“We are always looking to improve air service and the passenger experience for residents and travellers who visit Medicine Hat and the surrounding area,” Medicine Hat Regional Airport (YXH) manager Logan Boyd said.

Boyd explained that, while the airport is always looking to enhance air service, additional focused efforts are essential at this moment, as the demands of air travellers have changed since the pandemic, and, therefore, services must change, too.

“The air travel industry was devastated by the pandemic, (however the current) unique redefining phase across the sector presents a timely opportunity to understand how people plan to travel after such unprecedented restrictions and circumstances,” said Boyd. “We look forward to developing strategies to meet the expectations of our community.”

Currently, 21 WestJet flights depart from YXH to Calgary International Airport (YYC) each week. There is space enough for 34 passengers per flight serviced by the route’s primary aircraft carrier; Saab 340.

Residents interested in providing feedback may access the survey on shapeyourcity.medicinehat.ca. Responses will remain confidential, but will be used to inform a summary report for the ASRP.
