The height of 22 winds turbines approved to go up south of Rattle Snake lake may be nine metres (almost 30 feet) shorter than originally proposed, according to regulatory documents submitted Wednesday.

Enerfin Energy plans to build the Winnifred Wind Farm and related substation northwest of Seven Persons. This week the company applied to the Alberta Utilities Commission for minor alterations, chiefly to use higher capacity turbines that would also alter some tower dimensions, but maintain the layout .

Using Vesta 6.2-megawatt models over Enercon 5.56-megawatt units would increase the cumulative capacity by slightly more than 10 per cent to 136 megawatts from 22 towers.

The hub height would fall from 114 metres to 105 metres, and top height of the blade tip would decrease to 186 metres (just over 600 feet).

The layout would not change, and the company states the operation would remain in line with noise regulations and other considerations in the original permit.

The Alberta Utilities Commission is accepting feedback from affected parties until May 30 before a decision is made.
