Animal Food Bank and Cypress View Veterinary Clinic are teaming up to support local pets and pet owners in need, and are inviting community members to join in during the upcoming Nail Trim Fundraiser.
During the fundraiser, from 2-4 p.m. Friday, Cypress View Veterinary Clinic is welcoming Hatters to bring their dogs and cats for a $10 nail clipping, no appointment necessary.
All proceeds from the event will go toward the Medicine Hat branch of Animal Food Bank, an inter-provincial non-profit organization which works to provide pet owners in need with pet food and supplies, as well as veterinary care.
“We’re currently helping between 20 and 30 families a month in Medicine Hat,” AFB founder and Medicine Hat resident Nicole Frey told the News. “So, all money raised stays at Cypress View Veterinary Clinic to help with medications or anything we need for pets in the community.”
Frey says the support of community members is vital to AFB’s operations, as the organization is entirely donor-funded.
“There is no funding for preventative programs like ours that work to prevent the surrender of happy, loved pets,” said Frey, explaining that many of AFB’s clients are reliable and caring pet owners who have simply fallen on hard times and, therefore, need assistance in covering costs associated with pet ownership.
Frey reported that thanks to AFB’s support, 56 per cent of their clients have been able to keep their pets, rather than surrendering them to a local animal shelter, many of which regularly hit maximum capacity.
Frey encourages anyone interested in supporting AFB to attend Friday’s Nail Trim Fundraiser, and welcomes those who are unable to attend to consider dropping off a cash or pet food/supply donation with one of AFB’s local partners, which include; Cypress View Veterinary Clinic, both Medicine Hat Pet Valu stores and CocoMutt Hut Pet Retreat.
