kking@medicinehatnews.com Medicine Hat Concert Band Society is inviting Hatters on a voyage across the globe during its Around the World in 80 Minutes concert, taking place May 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Esplanade. Separately and together, the society’s Allegro and Andante bands will perform a variety of musical pieces from around the world, including Africa, Europe and South America and North America. “This concert will be a nice mix of marches and pop tunes that we’re sure people will love,” said Allegro conductor Curtis Perrin. “There are tunes people will recognize, like the Londonderry Air (O’ Danny Boy), Disney Blockbusters and Somewhere Out There from An American Tale. We’ll also have some Israeli folk dances, a Mmmbo, and even some music from the film Lawrence of Arabia. “MHCB concerts are always a blast and you never know what shenanigans the band, or the conductors, might get up to so you won’t want to miss it.” Andante conductor Mark Ward added that audience members will get to see the band’s combined 80-plus musicians perform together during the concert’s finale. Tickets for the concert are available on tixx.ca. 8
