Hatters are invited to attend an upcoming public screening of Alarm in Alberta, an eight-part German documentary series filmed in Medicine Hat and showcasing the day-to-day lives of local firefighters.
The screening will be held on May 16 at the Esplanade, and is free for the public to attend; though anyone hoping to catch it must reserve a ticket on tixx.ca prior to the screening date.
Those who attend the screening, will watch the series’ second episode, which features one of the most notable local events of 2022: the Royal Hotel fire. The episode will show how firefighters responded to the fire, as well as explore their behind-the-scenes reactions to it.
Following the screening, firefighters featured in the episode will be stationed in the Esplanade’s lobby to chat with members of the public and answer any questions they might have.
The series, which was filmed between September 2022 and February 2023, premiered March 28 on German Discovery Network, and has, so far, received positive acclaim from German audiences.
While the screening – which begins at 8 p.m., with doors open at 7 p.m. – is a free event, attendees are encouraged to bring a monetary or non-perishable food donation for the Medicine Hat Fire and Emergency Service’s Fill the Fire Truck initiative. All donations will be given to Medicine Hat’s Root Cellar Food and Wellness Hub.
Attendees are also encouraged to arrive early so to show their support for The Royal House Band, which will give a special performance beginning at 7:30 p.m.
