A local man is in custody after Medicine Hat Police allege he was in possession of a sawed off shotgun when he was stopped on an arrest warrant Tuesday.

Police say the Medicine Hat resident also had stolen property in a bag with the restricted weapon as well as identity documents and credit card information when he was detained for breaching court imposed conditions.

Tyler Poczik, 36, is charged with unlawfully possessing a restricted weapon and stolen goods valued less than $5,000, breaching a firearms and ammunition prohibition and unsafe storage of a firearm.

A release hearing determined he will remain in custody. His next court appearance is set for April 27.

Hatter arrested with meth stash

RCMP in Strathcona County have arrested a former Hatter and charged him with possessing more than 300 grams of methamphetamine and cash.

Craig Perini, 32, of Fort Saskatchewan, is in custody and is set to appear in court Thursday in Sherwood Park on that charge as well as possession of stolen property and obstruction.

Mounties say on March 27, they responded to a call that a vehicle had struck a control box on a rural road near Sherwood Park at about 6 a.m. The driver allegedly refused to produce identification and was eventually taken into custody with the aid of a police dog. Police say the vehicle was stolen in Fort Saskatchewan the previous day.
