A group of little Hatters was hoppy to assist the News in learning more about Easter by answering questions about the springtime holiday. The News: Why do we celebrate Easter? Mahamed (Grade 1): Because Easter is for caring for each other. Brinley Rose (Grade 1): You can make Easter eggs and then in summer, you can find the Easter chocolate. Junior (Grade 2): Because that’s when Jesus dies. Then, he rises to heaven. The News: Regular bunnies don’t lay eggs, so why does the Easter Bunny lay eggs? Scarlett (Grade 1): Because he likes chocolate and he’s magical. Junior (Grade 2): Maybe because he just likes to lay eggs. Linkoln (Grade 1): I think the Easter Bunny has a factory to make chocolate eggs and other things. Sawyer (Grade 1): Because he’s the Easter Bunny and he’s real and he likes to spread Easter chocolate. And the real bunnies don’t lay eggs because they don’t have anywhere to lay eggs and they don’t have nests. The News: Why does the Easter Bunny hide eggs, chocolates, marshmallows and other treats? Jaxon (Kindergarten): My grandma hides treats under her pillows; maybe the Easter Bunny does too. Sawyer (Grade 1): Because he doesn’t want to show his real self. Emery (Grade 2): So we can find them, because he knows it’s fun for us. The News: Where does the Easter Bunny live when it’s not Easter time? Emery (Grade 2): He can go to his factory, where he makes things. Mahamed (Grade 1): In his house in bunny holes. He has a big house. Scarlett (Grade 1): He lives with the leprechaun because the leprechaun likes gold and the (Easter) chocolate is gold. Junior (Grade 2): A secret place somewhere where you can’t see him. And it takes him not so long (to travel there) because, maybe, the Easter Bunny is a very good expert at jumping. He’s probably better than all the bunnies! He has lots of weight but, for some reason, sometimes people have lots of weight, but they’re just good at jumping. Sawyer (Grade 1): The Easter world. It’s where Easter Bunnies go and they share friendship and they share the rest of the eggs if they’ve delivered all the eggs to all the houses and there’s still more. Levi (Kindergarten): El Salvador. As a bonus, the little Hatters share their tips on how to catch the Easter Bunny: Myah (Grade 2): To catch the bunny you have to put salt somewhere on the floor, and you use tons of cages. I almost catched him last year. Junior (Grade 2): I know how to catch the bunny! You have to put a lot of bear traps everywhere because bear traps are kind of hard to get through. The News: But bear traps are made for bears, not bunnies. Junior (Grade 2): Oh, yeah. So maybe (instead) something that says ‘Push this button,’ but it’s actually a trap. A bunny trap! The News: What would you do if you caught the Easter Bunny though? If you caught him, he wouldn’t be able to go and deliver eggs. Levi (Kindergarten): I would just let him free. Junior (Grade 2): Oh, then I would just look at him too to see if he looks like a normal bunny, or if he looks like something totally more unique. Then, I’d let him go. 30
