Brooks Bandits to bid on hosting Centennial Cup

The Brooks Bandits will make a bid to host the Centennial Cup tournament in either 2024 or 2025.

The proposal was presented to that city’s city council meeting in January.

On Monday council considered the junior A team’s request for $50,000 in municipal grants to augment fundraising in the proposed $823,000 event budget.

The 10-team, 25-game tournament determines the national junior A championship.

It would be held over 10 days beginning in mid-May.

The Bandits won the 2022 tournament in Estevan, and was host as well as champion in 2019 when the tournament consisted of five teams. Brooks won the tournament for the first time in 2013.

This year’s tournament is in Portage La Prairie, Man.
