https://www.medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews Procrastinators have but one more day to drop off their Christmas tree off at one of three city depots. The final day for the annual program that accepts and composts trees is Jan. 31, after which trees can be dropped off free of charge at the composting facility at the city landfill. Trees should be free of decorations, stands, tinsel or bags, and can be left until the end of Tuesday in assigned stalls at three recycling depot locations. They are in the parking lots of Northlands Co-op and the Medicine Hat Mall, and the city’s depot on Kipling Street. Need sand? A return to cold weather after a freeze-thaw cycle in the region has led the city to offer a small amount of sand to residents in need of traction on sidewalks. City bylaws require property owners to keep sidewalks clear after snow storms. On Monday, the city’s municipal works department announced it had provided bins of grit at four locations around the city for public use on icy walks. Yellow pickup bin locations are at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede grounds (west of the Kinplex), the north parking lot of the Big Marble Go Centre, behind the Shamrock Recycling depot in Riverside and on Southlands Drive (near Chartwell Place). Residents are asked to bring their own shovel and limit themselves to one five-gallon pail. 12
