One of Medicine Hat’s longest-running youth sporting events is returning to the ice.

Registrations for the Jam Pail Bonspiel are now being accepted, according to the city’s parks and rec department, which has staged the annual event for elementary school kids during the traditional teacher’s convention for 58 years.

Children in grades 3 through 6 can register through the city’s website for games in age categories on Feb. 22 and 23.

The event at the Kinplex sees 13 sheets mapped out and competitors will get at least three games using frozen water bottles and pails.

“We are excited to be back at the rink for this family-friendly event,” said Mark Risdon, recreation program co-ordinator, City of Medicine Hat. “We consistently see over 300 students participate in the event and encourage families and friends to come out and cheer their students on in a friendly competition.”

About 300 registrations typically take place. Games usually begin at 5 p.m.
