Traffic disruptions on a main central route will continue into February resulting from work to abandon a natural gas well that sits near Spencer Street.
A rig appeared on the site of the former ADM Mill property on Jan. 9, causing eastbound traffic to be diverted onto one westbound lane on the road that connects Allowance Avenue to the intersection of Kingsway Avenue and Dunmore Road.
A Thursday release from the city’s municipal works department states that a private contractor working on behalf of the well’s private-sector owner will require about three more weeks to complete the work.
City roads officials noted at council on Monday that they had been informed the work, which was scheduled to be completed on Jan 18, would require additional time.
The new expected completion date is Friday, Feb. 3.
Motorists are advised to be aware of workers near the roadway and obey all signs.
