Jazz singer-songwriter Ellen Doty is ready to light up the Esplanade’s stage on Thursday.
Known for her unique blend of jazz, soul, folk, pop and indie, the Alberta musician is performing as part of the Esplanade’s On Stage Series.
“It’s going to be a beautiful evening of music,” Doty told the News. “There will be a lot of original songs and some reimagined jazz standards as well.
“I really like to story-tell during my performances. So I share a lot about where the songs come from and what they mean. So, the audience and I will laugh together and cry together, and it’ll be a lot of fun.”
Doty is most looking forward to sharing with the audience songs from her latest album Come Fall, as well as chatting with audience members after the show.
“I like my shows to be very interactive between me and the audience, and for it to feel intimate as they will get to know me through this performance,” she said. “And I always really enjoy meeting people and chatting afterwards as well. I think that’s a really cool part of performing is seeing how music impacts people.”
Doty has performed twice before in Medicine Hat and is looking forward to seeing the city again.
Joining Doty will be guitarist Brett Hansen and drummer Peter Hendrickson.
Tickets for Doty’s show are available to purchase at tixx.ca or at the Esplanade’s box office.
