RCMP seize drugs, guns in search of vehicle near Strathmore

A man found sleeping in a vehicle near Strathmore was arrested after police say they discovered two hand guns and a small amount of drugs in the car.

On the afternoon of Dec. 29, RCMP from the Strathmore detachment say they were called to check on a vehicle parked in a rural roadway near Highway No. 21, northeast of the town.

There, officers found a man asleep in the driver’s seat and allege they could see evidence of drugs. A .22-calibre and a 9mm pistol were later discovered along with a small amount of cocaine, fentanyl and cutting agent, according to police.

Oussama Mounmi, 22, of Wheatland County, was arrested on a charge of impaired driving and was subsequently charged with 17 offences.

They include possessing unlicensed prohibited firearms, one of which was allegedly stolen in 2013, and trafficking a controlled substance.

Highway fatality

A woman is dead after she was struck by a vehicle while walking along Highway No. 901 in the Siksika Nation, near Gleichen.

Traffic was slowed for several hours on Jan. 9 after RCMP say they were called to the scene. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured. RCMP continue to investigate the accident and determine the women’s identity.
