A man convicted of a string of sexual assaults in Medicine Hat has been released from prison and is considered a high risk to reoffend, according to the Calgary Police Service.

Shaun Gereald Desruisseaux, 43, was sentenced to 12 years in jail after he was apprehended in 2011 during an afternoon break-in to a southend home. He attempted to assault a teenaged girl before her parents became aware of his presence and chased him away.

A release from Calgary Police on Thursday states that the man’s statutory release date was Jan. 5, and he will be living in that city. Police and Alberta’s solicitor general’s office can release such public alerts as warnings to the public.

Desruisseaux’s 2012 trial heard prosecutors detail five knife-point attacks, dating back to 2008, that he perpetrated on women in Medicine Hat who previously unknown to him.

He weights 245-pounds, stands five-foot-11, and is shown as bald with a beard in a photo released by police.
