Initial work to close aging natural gas wells near the intersection of Dunmore Road and Spencer Street will see lanes reduced on Wednesday and Thursday.
The wells are privately owned and located on the site of the former ADM flour mill between Dunmore Road and the curve of Spencer Street that becomes Allowance Avenue at the overpass.
The city’s municipal works department issued a release on Tuesday warning motorists that the eastbound section of Spencer Street will be reduced to one lane as partial excavation of the roadway is required to expose the well-casing.
Fencing will remain in place until final abandonment work by private contractors proceeds in 2023.
