With Danielle Smith officially sworn in as the MLA for Brooks-Medicine Hat, her constituency office staff inform the News that offices in the riding will remain as before the early November byelection.

The premier was sworn into the legislature Tuesday, about two weeks after the results of the Nov. 8 byelection were made official.

Smith takes over from Michaela Frey, who announced she wouldn’t seek a second term in late September then resigned shortly after Smith won the United Conservative Party leadership contest.

Smith will use the constituency offices previously used by Frey, including a main office at 4, 650 Cassils Rd. in Brooks and a satellite office at 537 Fourth St. SE in Medicine Hat.

Staff also told the News the offices remained in operation during the 28-day election campaign and the transition would be “seamless,” according to Heather Pigott, who remains the constituency office manager.

At the beginning of the byelection Smith announced she had tagged the local office of MLA Drew Barnes in neighbouring Cypress-Medicine Hat riding as a point of contact for residents of Brooks-Medicine Hat.

Phone numbers remain the same (403-527-5622 in Medicine Hat and 587-270-5110 in Brooks), as does the general email address (Brooks.Medicinehat@assembly.ab.ca).
