COVID outbreak at Maple Creek healing lodge

Corrections Canada says it is monitoring four cases of COVID-19 at the Okimaw Ohci Healing Lodge near Maple Creek, Sask., and putting preventative measures in place to avoid further spread.

That could limit visitors to the correctional facility and will result in increased use of personal protective equipment.

A release Thursday states there are four confirmed cases at the facility that can house up to 60 inmates. The last previous case at the prison was recorded in August.

Further testing of inmates and staff is underway, according to officials. Vaccination is offered to inmates of federal prisons, but is not mandatory.
