YMCA’s Camp Jude has successful first season

Seventeen children participated in the first season of a trauma-informed day camp at the YMCA.

Camp Jude taught children new skills, helped them build friendships and let them have fun. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive from families, who have noticed a big difference in their children.

The camp was made possible through a $50,000 boost from YMCA Canada’s Innovation Grant and was the first program if its kind to be offered at Canadian YMCAs.

“The international YMCA movement has a long history of innovation, and the YMCA of Medicine Hat is proud to contribute to that legacy. We hope to see a time in the future when trauma-informed programs are as common as group swimming lessons are today,” says Sharon Hayward, CEO of Medicine Hat YMCA.
