An oral hearing to decide on a controversial power line project in Cypress County has been cancelled, though written evidence will still be considered by regulators deciding on the lines to connect the Winnifred Wind Power project.

Earlier this year, landowners and Cypress County raised concerns that a new line along Township Road 120, from the County of Forty Mile to Highway 3, north of Seven Persons, was problematic.

Landowners expressed concern about pole locations and access to irrigation pivots along the 25-kilometre route, which is the second proposed by the applicant, Enerfin Energy Company.

Cypress County hopes to widen the road eventually and expand an existing utility service corridor.

Enerfin informed the Alberta Utilities Commission in September that after meetings with two separate groups of landowners represented by law firms, a number of issues have been agreed upon. Several individuals are continuing with objections.

A hearing on line 498L was to be held on Oct. 18, but that has been cancelled. A new deadline for written submissions is pending.
