A wind power developer has chosen a contractor for two major projects in southeast Alberta that could be built next year.

Bird Construction will provide engineering, procurement and construction services on the Buffalo Atlee wind park, near Jenner, and the Wild Rose 2 wind farm, near Seven Persons.

No value was released regarding the contract won by Bird, but the 192-megawatt, 38 turbine tower Wild Rose 2 project is estimated by Capstone to cost US$360 million to constructed.

That project was rejuvenated last fall when Toronto-based Capstone acquired the plan and subsequently signed long-term off-take agreements for the power to the City of Edmonton and Pembina Pipelines.

Recent newsletters from the company state they plan to do some site work and preparation for road building this fall.

The Buffalo Atlee plan comprises 13 tower sites in three groups about 10 kilometres from Jenner.
