A Medicine Hat man is charged with aggravated assault and possession of dangerous weapons after a man was found with serious injuries on the banks of the South Saskatchewan overnight on August 16.

Police say a 19-year-old was at a make-shift camp in Strathcona Island Park and was taken to hospital.

Andrew Beaudoin, 32, is in custody ahead of a Aug. 23 court appearance on assault charges, two counts of possessing a dangerous weapon and breaching a release order.

Crop burns

County fire crews were called to contain two substantial fires on Thursday, the Cypress County officials have reported.

The first occurred mid-day in a crop near Township Road 102 and Range Road 45.

Crews were also called to put out a large grass fire adjacent to Highway No. 1 between Redcliff and Suffield at about 9:30 p.m.

Redcliff RCMP released a statement Friday morning that the cause of the larger fire, which streched 100 metres in length and 750 metres wide was casued by sparks from a malfunctioning vehicle tire. The detachment states they have dashcam video of the start of the blaze which contradicts reports circulating that it was intentionally set.
