Kara Brake has been relieved of her position as general manager of Medicine Hat’s Exhibition & Stampede as of Nov. 12.

Brake assumed the role in February and was the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede’s first female general manager. Previously, she worked as a games manager for the 2016 Alberta Winter Games and 2017 Special Olympics Alberta Summer Games. She has also sat on the Medicine Hat Sport and Event Council for Tourism Medicine Hat.

Brake confirmed to the News that her departure from the Stampede was “unexpected” and says no reason was provided to her as to why her contract was terminated.

Despite the sudden departure, Brake insists there is no bad blood.

“I really appreciated working with them. It was a great opportunity. (I’m) just taking some time for myself right now to figure out what next moves are,” Brake told the News.

It has been confirmed that Ron Edwards, former president of the Stampede and the Rocky Mountain Association of Fairs, has taken over the position of general manager.

Edwards was not available for comment.
