A federal-provincial childcare partnership in Saskatchewan will cut daycare costs to parents by about half, retroactive to last July, it was announced on Friday.

The reduction of fees paid for children aged five and younger will range between $306 to $395 per month and be provided directly to licensed childcare providers to reduce cost to parents.

According to that province’s Education Ministry the move is the first step toward a $10-per day goal by 2025 laid out by Ottawa last spring, Saskatchewan signed the agreement with Ottawa in August.

The Alberta government and federal officials announced an agreement earlier this month, though few details or a schedule was released.
