The Knights of Columbus Medicine Hat, a local Catholic fraternal organization, donated 24 new winter coats to the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education as part of its Coats for Kids program. The coats will be given to students in need.
Coats for Kids is an annual charity event organized by Knights of Columbus chapters, or councils, around the world. Medicine Hat’s council has been participating in Coats for Kids since 2015 and usually donates 50 coats per year, Pat Ries, financial secretary for the local council told the News. More donations will be made throughout the month.
Ries and his fellow council members are happy to know recipients of the coats will stay warm this winter.
“Hopefully it will just brighten their day,” said Ries. “Right now, in Alberta, in our country and in the world we need a little bit of hope.”
