Hemisphere Energy says a polymer injection program at its sites in Special Areas 2 is encouraging, and it will move ahead with three more wells this fall near its Atlee-Buffalo field, it stated on June 29.

The junior exploration company spent $1.1 million in early 2021 to build facilities for the program centred in an area north of CFB Suffield.

Previously stated capital plans call for conversion of one existing well and three new wells to come online in 2022 at the field that is weighted to heavy oil.

Fertilizer complaint

CF Industries has called on U.S. trade officials to investigate alleged dumping of fertilizer into the U.S. market by companies in Russia and Trinidad, the company announced late last month.

The global producer says urea ammonium nitrate from those sources is being unfairly subsidized by home governments, allowing them to sell below fair market cost. That puts domestic producers at a disadvantage, said CF head Tony Will in a statement calling for countervailing duties.

The U.S. Department of Commerce is expected to decide this summer if investigation is warranted.

Montana rail expansion

A new development-ready rail serviced industrial park in eastern Montana will be a newly “certified site” for BNSF railroad, making it the fourth in the state and 29th across the major railroad’s network.

The project, announced June 30, would consist of 45 acres of land near the Fort Peck Indian Reservation near the state’s boundary with North Dakota. It will be serviced by a spur line of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe and be “certified” by the shipper as a pickup location as a way to attract companies to locate in the park.

Other such sites in Montana are located at Shelby, Libby and Great Falls.

In the same release, a park in Sommerville, Tex., also received certification.
