A Medicine Hat man faces only a single weapons charge following police negotiations near a busy intersection on Thursday night.
The service told the public to avoid the area of Dunmore Road and Ross Glen Drive at about 9 p.m. that night, and brought in the tactical team to contain the man and his vehicle in a restaurant parking lot.
The 53-year-old man, who told police he had a weapon, was taken into custody peacefully two hours later and was released overnight.
A Medicine Hat Police Service spokesperson said they were called at about 8 p.m. to respond to a call of a man expressing mental duress. The individual fled after some interaction and his vehicle ended up lodged on an embankment at the restaurant, which is currently closed for renovations.
