Local senior charged after allegedly wielding knife in anti-mask tirade

By Medicine Hat News on June 25, 2021.

A 74-year-old man is facing charges after a dispute over wearing a mask at a N. Railway business ended with him pulling out a 10-inch knife.

The incident occurred on April 28 when the man is alleged to have entered the business without a mask and became upset when asked to put one on.

It’s alleged he assaulted a female employee as he left the business.

He was confronted by an employee outside the business where it’s alleged he became agitated to the point where he pulled a knife and charged at that individual.

The employee was able to distance himself from the accused and was not injured.

The accused was arrested at his home a short time later.

Robert Piche is facing assault with a weapon and common assault charges in relation to this incident.

His next court date is set for June 15.
