The Centennial City might have lost a native son as RCMP Brooks detachment Staff-Sgt. Chris Zanidean took a new posting earlier this year, but its new commander is no stranger to southeastern Alberta.
The City of Brooks announced Wednesday RCMP Staff-Sgt. Gordon Yetman will be heading up the Mounties following postings across southern Alberta.
Yetman transferred to Brooks earlier this year following his posting as leading the Mounties’ Taber-Vauxhall detachment.
His regional experience of policing in southern Alberta also included stints in Redcliff and Bow Island as well as an earlier posting in Brooks.
“After I completed an acting assignment back in 2017, I learned that Brooks is a very progressive, vibrant and culturally diverse community where the people truly make the city what it is. This was a major factor in my reasoning for choosing to come to Brooks,” said Yetman in a statement.
Yetman says his first priority will be to reach out to partner agencies as well as cultural groups in the community known as the city of a 100 hellos.
Yetman was also previously posted in Vermillion and Lloydminster as well as Ponteix, Sask.
Zanidean is currently serving in the RCMP Airdrie detachment.
