The Medicine Hat Public School Division announced three new cases of COVID-19 in its schools late Wednesday night.
Alberta Health Services have identified two additional cases at Crescent Heights High School, totalling three active cases at the school. The division’s statement says the school remains on alert and all close contacts of positive cases have been identified and are in quarantine.
River Heights School is also on alert and MHPSD says an additional positive case of COVID-19 has been identified at the school for a total of two active cases. All students and staff listed as close contacts are already in quarantine.
MHPSD says both schools will remain open.
“It appears that the exposure was limited to a small group of students and staff and we are confident, based on AHS guidance, that staff and students who have not been directed to quarantine can attend school safely,” both statements read.
On Thursday afternoon, MHPSD released a statement saying there is a positive case of COVID-19 at Alexandra Middle School. Close contacts of the positive case have been directed to quarantine and the school in staying open, says MHPSD.
Custodial teams were directed to conduct enhanced cleaning protocols, including focus on areas where the positive cases were in all three of the schools and high touch areas and surfaces.
