The Veiner Centre will re-open on Monday morning for seniors programming with health restrictions in place, the City of Medicine Hat announced Friday.
That comes nearly seven months after it and other city facilities first closed to meet guidelines meant to halt the spread of the coronavirus.
The facility in the north River Flats will host fitness classes, crafts, snooker, book club, painting and crafting, under reduced hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays.
The bistro will be open for beverage service only (lunch meal service will not be provided), and physical distancing and good hygiene will be stressed, say administrators.
“We are thrilled to have the Veiner Centre open again, and cannot wait to see our members back doing the activities they enjoy,” said Shona Dickie, the city’s superintendent of community support services. “We are making every effort to provide activities to best serve our members in a manner that complies with Alberta (Health) guidelines, while providing opportunities for people to stay connected and active in our community.”
Membership will also be free through to the end of 2020.
Registration for activities will take place online and also in person, from Nov. 9-13.
Fitness classes will begin Nov. 16
Staged reopening will allow staff to evaluate operations and the implementation of safety guidelines, administrators stated.
