While the government has not updated overdose statistics over the summer, a representative for the associate minister of mental health and addictions says Quarter Two numbers are coming.
Steve Buick, of Jason Luan’s office, says numbers will be coming within the next week or two. He said the quarterly reporting is not being discontinued or changed.
He added that there may be a plan to reformat the next report, but it will still have the same information on overdose deaths in the province.
The Quarter One report shows that the South Zone had the highest rate of fentanyl deaths in the province, with 14.1 per 100,000 person years.
The South Zone also had the highest rate of accidental poisoning deaths related to non-fentanyl opioids.
Calgary and Edmonton have the highest number of apparent accidental poisoning deaths related to fentanyl. The South Zone had the highest Quarter One rate per 100,000 person years.
The South Zone also had the highest rate of accidental drug poisoning deaths related to an opioid other than fentanyl.
The News will report Quarter Two and Three statistics as soon as they are available.
