The presentation of a new long-term development plan for Medicine Hat is delayed after Wednesday’s meeting of the municipal planning commission was cancelled. Only two members of the commission, chair Coun. Brian Varga and public member Frank Devine, were present when the meeting was called to order at 2:30 p.m. at city hall. That’s too few to conduct official business, and now administrators are hoping to potentially schedule a special meeting in early September to introduce the Municipal Development Plan. That document predicts economic and population forecasts, lays down principles and planning priorities. The MDP was the only piece of business on the agenda, meaning no development or subdivision applications will be delayed by the postponement. Officials with the planning department began work on the MDP in 2018, and had scheduled to have the 30-year planning guide and outlook before city council for consideration and a pubic hearing this fall. 6
