Shaw is promoting its new service and download speeds with the opening of a new “concept store” outlet in Medicine Hat.
The store, located near the food court of the Medicine Hat Mall, cost several hundred thousand dollars to renovate and outfit, according to company officials who gave a tour on Tuesday morning to Medicine Hat Mayor Ted Clugston.
“This has been months in the making – working with landlords – and we’re able to open with this significant investment in Medicine Hat,” said Chethan Lakshman, Shaw’s vice-president of government relations.
Spokesman say that the company is responding to consumer demand and is continuing on billions of dollars invested in the company’s network over the past decade.
The headline offer this summer is “gig+ fibre”, a bundling of home and internet service with wifi service and equipment to enable all residential and land connected service gigabit download speed.
“Internet speed is a big thing,” said Clugston. “I love that it’s a company making an investment, and it’s a really beautiful store.”
The Medicine Hat location is one of 12 new or redeveloped stores to open in Alberta and British Columbia this summer. Others opened in Lethbridge and Red Deer this month.
