Most local schools to open Aug. 31

The province announced late last week that it would not be pushing the start of school back and most local schools will be opening on Aug. 31.

The Medicine Hat Public School Board, Prairie Rose School Division and CAPE School all confirmed to the News that classes would start on Monday.

Ecole les Cypres will have its first day of classes on Sept. 2 in its new building on Saamis Rotary Way.

The Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education will be holding staggered start times for its schools. The News was provided with the following information:

For Notre Dame Academy, Grades 6 and 7 will attend school on Aug. 31. Grades 8 and 9 will be the only ones at school on Sept. 1. All students will be at school on Sept. 2.

At St. Mary’s School, Grade 7 will attend alone on Aug. 31, Grade 8 only on Sept. 1 and Grade 9 students only on Sept. 2. All students will attend together on Sept. 3.

At Monsignor McCoy High School, Grade 10s will have the school to themselves on Aug. 31. Grade 11 students will go to school on Sept. 1. They will arrive at school at 8:10 a.m. and will be dismissed three hours later. Grade 12 students will arrive at 11:40 a.m. on Sept. 1 to register. They will be dismissed at 2:40 p.m. All students will be at school on Sept. 2.
