Man possibly drowns in Lake Diefenbaker

By Medicine Hat News on August 22, 2020.

RCMP and other rescue crews searched Lake Diefenbaker on Friday following reports of a potential drowning.

Members from the Outlook, Sask., detachment stated that they were called on Thursday night after a woman returned from a swim but could not locate her male companion on the shore or water.

The 35-year-old man was last seen near Danielson Provincial Park, near Elbow, Sask.

Forty Mile tax hit

Assessment changes for oil and gas infrastructure suggested by the province could cut tax revenue in the County of Forty Mile by $1 million.

That equals about 10 per cent of the annual budget of the county west of Medicine Hat.

In a statement to Alberta Newspaper Group, Reeve Steve Wikkerink said the impact of four proposals to update linear assessment regulations range between $950,000 to $1.4 million per year in lost taxes.

Other rural municipalities, including Cypress County and the County of Newell are urging residents to lobby their elected provincial officials about the changes.

Provincial officials have said they will continue to consult before a decision is made, potentially this fall.
