gslade@medicinehatnews.com@MHNGillianSlade The Lions Club of Medicine Hat is celebrating Stampede happiness with a drive-by barbecue at Mike’s Meats, 1056 Foundry St., on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be burgers, corn and hotdogs for sale. Helping with the preparations on Friday afternoon was Second World War veteran Roy Gale, who turned 100 years old in June. He has been a member of Lions Club of Medicine Hat for 60 years. “I do what I can,” said Gale about his contribution. “I can sit and peel onions.” James Higgins, president of the club, says the event is a way to bring normalcy to people’s lives in what has been a difficult year with the COVID pandemic. Higgins says the burgers will include cheese and the fried onions the club is now famous for. All safety precautions will be in place including social distancing, and workers will be masked and gloved. The Lions Club of Medicine Hat would prefer people to pay with debit or credit if possible. The burgers will sell for $6, hotdog $3 and corn $3. All the money raised will be for the Lions Club of Medicine Hat. 11
