The city has completed the installation of new LED lighting inside the Cenovus Arena at the Family Leisure Centre. A total of 50 LED high-bay fixtures and three LED wall packs have been installed to replace the original lighting over the ice and the stands. “Players, parents and even our staff have noticed the difference” said Stephane Rainville, superintendent recreation facility operations. “Plays happening on the ice will no longer get lost in the shadows.” A grant from the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre funded more than $26,000 of the project, about 70 per cent of the total cost. The city paid the remaining 30 per cent. This green energy project is expected to save up to $4,700 annually in electricity costs and reduce GHG emissions by up to 43 tonnes, according to a city release. 6
