The community is rallying behind a young girl after an accident at Lundbreck Falls.
Redcliff resident Alexis Streifel went on a trip to get flowers for a friend’s mom. On the way back home, the friends stopped at the falls.
According to the GoFundMe post set up to support her family, Streifel saw other people jumping off the falls and wanted to have her turn.
As she went to jump, she decided against it and tried to turn around at the last second. She was not able to stop her forward momentum and fell 40 feet down the falls.
After hitting rocks on the way down, Streifel stayed afloat in the water until her friend was able to pull her to shore.
.
Streifel was taken to Foothills Hospital and is now in the ICU. She suffered a couple spinal fractures, broken femur, shattered hip, broken pelvis, shattered knees, broken foot, broken jaw and lost teeth.
The GoFundMe page set up for the family has raised more than $23,000 in just a couple days.
The page states that money will go to Streifel’s family to help with immediate and long-term costs associated with the fall.
The donation page can be found by searching ‘Local Teen & Family Needs Community Support’ on gofundme.com.
However, this part is absolutely not true: “The post states that onlookers either pulled out their phones to record, or ran to their cars after the incident.”
Many many people came to help. It was a stranger who jumped in after her to save her and get her to shore, where people helped her further (she should probably get an award). Others did pull out their phones – to call 911, and there was no cell service so they were running around everywhere trying to get a signal.
I realize it can be difficult to know specific details if you weren’t actually there, but I think you need to be careful if you’re going to print statements such as these. Perhaps quoting the Gofundme page isn’t the best source of information.
Thank you Granny…

We would like to thank anyone who has updated us with information from the day of the accident. Considering it was such a traumatic event, every single thing that happened may not have been crystal clear. Anyone who was there, knows this would bring shock to anyone who had witnessed. Along with the acknowledgement of Alexis’ friend who offered support within the water; we have recently been informed there was a woman who stayed with Alexis on the rocks until the paramedics got there, holding her head and encouraging her to stay awake. We have also been notified there were two men that came together and helped the paramedics lift Alexis off the rocks. This came to light with the support from a man and his wife whom called 911 from the top of the falls and stayed until Alexis was taken by the paramedics. We would like to send a huge thank you to anyone who offered love and support to Alexis during this difficult time. Each one of you played a part in allowing us to keep hold of our beautiful girl.
