Teen woman killed in Highway 3 collision last week

By Medicine Hat News on July 21, 2020.

A head-on crash on Highway 3 east of Taber last week claimed the life of a 19-year-old woman, RCMP reported on Monday.

Police say the collision occurred at 6:50 a.m. on July 17, and neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors. The driver of the eastbound car, a woman from Nobleford, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 17-year-old male driver of the westbound vehicle suffered “serious, non-life-threatening” injuries. Traffic was rerouted for several hours that day. No other details are being released.

Highway bust near Bassano

Three RCMP detachments west of Medicine Hat are releasing details of how they arrested suspected car thieves on a highway pursuit last week.

Officers from Brooks, Bassano and Gleichen were involved after RCMP spotted a stolen Chevy Traverse with Saskatchewan plates at about 10:45 a.m. on July 16. Using OnStar vehicle positioning service, authorities tracked it to a gas station near Cluny, Alta. And a short pursuit ended near Range Road 213 and Highway 1, where a male and female were taken into custody.

Elisabeth Tuckanow, 24, of Yorkton, and Isiah Spavier, 25, of Regina, are charged with multiple offences, including theft over $5,000, careless use and possession of a firearm, flight from a police officer and possession of a controlled substance.

The are scheduled to appear in Siksika Nation Provincial Court on Aug. 27.
