As the water in the South Saskatchewan River recedes to more “normal” levels, the boat launch in Strathcona Island Park is open again.
About 10 days ago the river rose about 40 cm overnight, effectively shutting down the boat launch. A barricade was put in place by the City of Medicine Hat’s parks and recreation department in anticipation of this.
The increased water and mud that came with the water covered the boat-launching area and circular drive for traffic at the water’s edge.
The barricades have now been removed, but parks and recreation are still working in the area to return the ramp and driving area to how it used to be.
Heavy equipment was in place early Wednesday morning to clear the mud away.
